How To Coach At Gameday During Kids Baseball Leagues

By Cara Torres

The most important things for kids baseball leagues coaches nowadays is to make sure that everything goes well during gameday. This is because this is one of the experiences that not only children are looking forward to but parents as well. A single fault during a big gameday will usually signal the end of the coach's career.

It is certainly true that the person has to consider what kind of game the team wants to win. This is one of the many things that parents have to think about for the sake of giving their children the best game possible. To those who are taking up the position of the head coach for the team, here are some tips they want to follow.

First of all, the coach will have to decide on a playing time. Since this is the kind of serious game for children, it is important to fill out the playing time equally across all of the players. This should give the children confidence in themselves. The playing time should be be evenly distributed as well as the number of innings a child has to sit out.

It is also a given for the said coach to think about the positions for the game properly. For coaches, deciding on the positions might be a difficult puzzle especially when there are multiple children who suit that position. The coach should be prepared for such difficulties. Consider all available factors when deciding on the positions.

All of the things that one has decided, both on the playing time and positions, should be communicated to the parents. The said policies should be explained to each parents before the said competition begins. With this, the parents can have an idea on why the child is on such a position and some other policies.

There is also a need to decide on signs beforehand. A game at a tee ball level will not actually require signs but it is surely different for those children who are already at their competitive age of seven. A sign to know if the child should do a bunt, steal, or hit-and-run should be decided before the competition starts.

Treat the umpires well. Just like how a coach is just a volunteer from the children's parents, the umpires are also the same. This means that the coach must treat the umpires in the same way that one will want others to treat them. What goes around comes around so better treat others with proper respect.

The head coach will also have to think about the parents. This is because the parents will have to support the kids positively. If possible, tell the parents to avoid saying anything to the umpire. Also, make sure that they do not give any form of coaching to their children from where they are at the stands.

The coach should maintain a level head when it comes to the said kids baseball leagues. This is so that the coach can see the bigger picture of a pressure-packed situation. The coach should maintain a level-headed perspective of things so that the game will not be distorted. This is a job for the coach, after all.
